Sixteen years is a long time in marketing.

It’s an industry that’s easy to break into but notoriously hard to stay in. Tools change. Platforms rise and fall. Buzzwords come and go. Entire disciplines emerge almost overnight. Longevity doesn’t happen by accident — it requires curiosity, humility, and a willingness to evolve.

LGX didn’t start as LGX. And that’s kind of the point.

Where It Started: Access to Agency-Level Thinking

LGX traces its roots back to 2008, when our founder, Matt Stewart, sold a website rebuild to a restaurant while working on projects during art school. It was an early project — but also an early insight.

After a couple of years of freelancing and building a client base, Little Guy Design was officially born in 2010.

At the time, the marketing landscape looked very different from what it does today.

There was no Canva. No robust online course ecosystem. Social media wasn’t a business requirement yet. Website builders weren’t intuitive or accessible. If you were a small or mid-sized business looking for an outside marketing resource, your options were limited: hire a solo freelancer who specialized in one thing, or try to afford a larger agency with high minimums and limited flexibility.

Matt believed — and we still do — that businesses of all sizes deserve agency-level quality and thinking, even if they aren’t ready for a full in-house team or a big-agency price tag.

That belief became the foundation of Little Guy Design: a scrappy, service-driven studio focused on graphic design and website design, built to meet businesses where they were.

It worked. And it lasted.

“Just because you don’t have $20,000 doesn’t mean you should have to settle for poor or inconsistent work for your online presence.” — Matt

When the Industry Changed — So Did We

Over the next decade, marketing evolved rapidly.

Design alone wasn’t enough. Websites weren’t just digital brochures anymore. Search, social, email, advertising, and analytics became interconnected. Marketing stopped being about “making things” and started being about creating systems.

By 2021, it was clear that the work — and our team — had grown beyond the original name.

Little Guy Design became Little Guy Branding, reflecting a more holistic approach to helping organizations:

  • Get found through search, digital presence, and visibility
  • Stand out with clear positioning, strong branding, and thoughtful user experience
  • Reach everyone that mattered through integrated campaigns and channels

This shift wasn’t about abandoning design. It was about expanding into strategy, consistency, and growth.

We also refreshed our look and feel — brighter, more expressive, and more reflective of the collaborative, creative team behind the work.

When a Name No Longer Fits the Reality

As our clients have grown over the last few years, something else became clear.

We weren’t just working with small businesses. We were partnering with established organizations, growing teams, and leaders navigating real complexity. Some embraced the idea of staying small. Others were focused on scale, momentum, and long-term growth.

At the same time, our work was becoming less transactional and more relational.

We weren’t just delivering projects. We were building partnerships. Acting as an extension of marketing departments. Helping teams make confident decisions over time.

The name Little Guy Branding carried a lot of pride and history — but it no longer fully reflected the work, partnerships, or direction we were headed in.

So we changed our name – not to reinvent ourselves, but to better reflect the work we were already doing.

"Sixteen years is a long time in marketing — an industry that’s easy to enter and hard to stay in. - Progress comes from orchestrating the right mix of marketing disciplines at the right time."

Why LGX

LGX isn’t a reinvention. It’s an alignment.

The name has been part of our shorthand and URL for years. The X represents the multiplier — the experience, the extra care, and the exponential impact that comes from thoughtful partnership and well-orchestrated work, done well.

The name LGX reflects who we are today:

  • Strategic, not transactional
  • Collaborative, not prescriptive
  • Focused on long-term growth, not one-off execution

It’s confident. It’s clear. And it’s ready for what’s neXt.

Who LGX Is For

LGX partners with growth-oriented organizations that need support turning strategy into action — and understand that modern marketing isn’t one job.

Today’s marketing landscape spans 17 disciplines (give or take), and progress depends on orchestrating the right mix at the right time.  LGX helps align strategy and execution across that complexity so businesses can stay focused on what they do best.

In practice, this often looks like a leader or marketer who:

  • Is responsible for marketing decisions, but feels stretched across too many priorities
  • Knows growth matters, but struggles to determine what to do first and what will make the biggest impact
  • Is expected to manage multiple channels, vendors, or initiatives with limited internal support
  • Works within an organization with many moving parts — such as a nonprofit or multi-department team — where consistency, continuity, and clear systems matter, especially amid staff turnover

We work across industries, including health and tech, nonprofit, construction and trades, home services, and legal and professional services. While industry experience matters, what matters most is readiness — a willingness to prioritize, collaborate, and move forward with intention.

From Execution to Partnership

Execution matters. But execution alone is a moment in time.

True partnership is ongoing.

Marketing evolves quickly. Campaigns shift. Platforms change. What worked last quarter may need refinement today — and that’s not failure. That’s progress.

Our role is to guide teams through that evolution, helping them prioritize, adapt, and move forward with confidence.

“I love finding concrete solutions to client problems.” — Kevin

The LGX Way: Full-Circle Thinking

Marketing touches every part of an organization.

That’s why we start with a 360° view — bringing multiple stakeholders into the conversation to understand not just what needs to be built, but what needs to work better. This approach helps uncover gaps, surface assumptions, and align teams before execution ever begins.

“My role is to help teams slow down just enough to see the full picture — and then move forward with clarity, alignment, and confidence.” — Sarah

Websites, content, and campaigns don’t exist in isolation. They support sales, HR, operations, culture, and growth. When marketing decisions are made without that context, even well-executed work can miss the mark.

The 360 process creates shared understanding across teams — especially in organizations with multiple departments, competing priorities, or frequent change. It ensures that strategy isn’t developed in a silo and that execution is grounded in real organizational needs.

This full-circle thinking is what allows LGX to act as a true partner — not just delivering assets, but helping teams make better decisions, faster. When those pieces align, marketing becomes a tool for momentum, not just visibility.

The Right Time for Partnership

Most organizations reach a point where doing more isn’t the answer — doing things better is.

That moment often looks like this:

  • You’ve tried a few things and learned along the way.
  • You know marketing matters, but it’s hard to know what to prioritize.
  • You’re ready for clarity instead of chaos.

That’s where LGX comes in.

Our role isn’t to rush decisions or overwhelm teams with tactics. It’s to slow things down just enough to see the full picture — the landscape, the layers, and the connections that matter — and then help organizations move forward with confidence, alignment, and momentum.

This is the work we’ve been doing for 16 years.

What’s changed is the world around us: the tools, the platforms, the expectations, and the role marketing plays inside an organization. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to thoughtful partnership, clear communication, and helping teams grow with intention.

LGX — the name and the company it represents — is simply the clearest expression of that evolution.

From Little Guy Design to LGX, the common thread has always been the same: helping organizations communicate more clearly, connect more meaningfully, and build what comes next — together.

As we mark 16 years in business, we’re deeply grateful for the organizations who’ve trusted us, challenged us, and grown alongside us.

And if you’re new here — welcome. If you’re at a point where clarity and partnership matter, we’d love to get to know you when the time feels right.
